2016 Volvo S80

New for 2016

For 2016, the all-wheel drive T6 has been removed from the lineup, leaving the T5 Drive-E as the sole available model. Nevertheless, the T5 benefits from new 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, a power moonroof, and the interior air-quality system as standard. Improvements has also been made to the Platinum trim, which gains BLIS®, power retractable side mirrors, and HID headlights with washers.

More of What You Want

Style and safety are two things Swedish design does very well, and those qualities are easy to see (and enjoy) in the 2016 Volvo S80. But the 2016 Volvo S80 goes beyond super safety systems and Swedish style to deliver a sedan that boasts general levels of comfort and excellent fuel economy, the latter courtesy of Volvo’s smart turbocharged Drive-E engine. Indeed, the 2016 S80 is a smart choice for buyers who would rather drive a vehicle full of substance than a hollow status symbol. Because to Volvo, getting what you want and need is the mark of true luxury.

Powertrains and Performance

Powering the 2016 Volvo S80 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that creates a spellbinding 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This powerful engine offers plenty of impetus for spirited driving, ensuring that your daily commute is both comfortable and fun.

Despite its power, the 2016 Volvo S80 is rather efficient, to boot. The engine comes standard with stop/start functionality, which automatically shuts down the engine when idling, such as at a stop sign or red light. This, in addition to a standard eight-speed transmission, earns the 2016 S80 an impressive EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined (25 city/37 highway).*

Features and Trims

The 2016 Volvo S80 is a four-door, five passenger sedan. It comes in one model, the T5 Drive-E, and is available in Premier and Platinum trim levels. Starting MSRP for the 2016 Volvo S80 is $43,450.**

First up is the Premier, which comes standard with leather upholstery, LED running lights, keyless ignition/entry, an adaptive digital display instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with three-position memory. And we haven't even begun to scratch the surface because the Premier also gets new 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, and a power moonroof.

Technology lovers will also appreciate the wealth of standard features the 2016 S80 has on offer, including Volvo’s Sensus telematics service with a free six-month subscription, a 7-inch display screen, eight-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth® phone and audio connectivity. A navigation system is also standard, as are a six-CD changer, satellite radio, HD Radio®, and a USB port.

The Platinum trim adds a standard harmon/kardon® Premium Sound System with 12 speakers and active dual xenon headlights, in addition to the features (where applicable) offered on the Premier model.

Available for either trim is an Inscription package. This available package adds premium leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a leather-covered dashboard and center armrest, and upgraded interior trim.

The 2016 Volvo S80 can be customized further with a number of stand-alone options. These include a wood-trimmed steering wheel and a lowered, sport-tuned suspension--complete with 19-inch alloy wheels.

Design

The 2016 Volvo S80 features subtle yet handsome styling. It may not be the flashiest car around, but the S80’s straight-edge styling transcends fashion trends for a timeless look.

The styling is accented by the trademark Volvo egg-crate grille chrome trim on the door side moldings, taillights, and lower front fascia, as well as dual chrome exhaust tips. LED turn signals mounted on the side-view mirrors and fog lights complete the exterior.

The interior is crafted with the same attention to detail. For a high-tech flourish, the S80 gets a standard adaptive digital display instrument cluster that features Performance, Eco, and Elegance “themes.” A three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather-wrapped shifter add an additional touch of class.

Safety

Volvo’s reputation for safety didn’t come from nowhere. In addition to industry-standard features like anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control, the S80 has City Safety--which detects obstacles and automatically brakes the car at low speeds--and front and side-impact airbags.

A Technology package (optional on Premier, standard on Platinum) adds adaptive cruise control, collision warning and pedestrian/cyclist detection with full automatic braking, lane departure warning, and road-sign information.

Bottom Line

The 2016 Volvo S80 is a handsomely styled sedan that packs in enough safety and sophistication to keep drivers and passengers satisfied for miles on end. And its powerful and efficient turbocharged engine means you’ll spend more time on the road and less time at the pump.
