The Perfect Ride for…
Crossovers have become so popular in recent years because they meet the needs of so many different drivers. The increased wheel size and ground clearance offer versatility; the all-wheel-drive turbocharged four-cylinder engine offers capability; the compact size offers good fuel economy, and the spacious interior offers plenty of room for passengers and cargo. And with Volvo, you get all of the above plus reliability, safety, style, and state-of-the-art technology, all for an approachable starting price of $33,700.*
Drive & Handling
The 2020 XC40 comes available in three trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription. With two available powertrains, you can choose which power and efficiency match your needs. The standard T4 engine produces 187 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque and provides powerfully efficient drive. For those who need more grunt, the T5 powertrain uses a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and offers increased power and performance for the driver who demands more. In the XC40, the T5 produces 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, a stellar output for a lightweight crossover. When mated with the XC40’s standard all-wheel drive, the T5 engine enables the XC40 to adapt and overcome many road conditions, including some that are off-road.
The new XC40 also includes smart performance technology as a standard. Drivers can use the Drive Mode Selector, an elegant rotary dial in the tunnel console, to instantly and effortlessly change multiple vehicle characteristics to match changing road conditions. There are several modes to choose from, like Comfort, Off-road, and Dynamic modes, as well as an Eco mode that calibrates the powertrain and climate system for lowest possible fuel consumption.
Other standard efficiency-enhancing technology includes the eight-speed Geartronic™ automatic transmission, which can find the right gear for optimal performance and fuel consumption, as well as the ubiquitous Start/Stop engine technology, which saves fuel by automatically stopping the engine when idle in traffic or at red lights and immediately restarting it when the brake pedal is released.
Key Features
Sensus Connect
All trim levels include a complimentary subscription to Volvo Sensus Connect. This convenient feature connects your XC40 to your smartphone with an easy-to-use downloadable app. Using the Sensus Connect app, you can control in-vehicle functions like streaming entertainment and navigation, and you can control remote functions, like ignition, climate control, and door locks, from anywhere in the world. Plus, Sensus Connect offers services like finding local businesses and parking, and it can even help you find where you parked your car later. The app will also help you schedule Volvo service and alert you to any possible recalls or updates about your vehicle. But that’s not all—the 2020 XC40 also offers an available inductive charging station to wirelessly charge any compatible smartphone, right in your center console.
Automatic Automation
The XC40 includes the latest in-vehicle automation technologies, too. A standard Rain Sensor can automatically start windshield wipers whenever water hits the windshield, whether it’s from rain or a splash from a puddle on the road. A Power Operated Tailgate also comes standard, which can be opened using the key fob or buttons on the dashboard or the tailgate itself. The tailgate opening height can be pre-programmed if you have a particularly low ceiling in your garage. The available Park Assist Pilot can even park the car for you by using a built-in radar to gauge distances and take over steering. Park Assist Pilot can handle parallel and perpendicular parking, and it can even assist with leaving tight parking spaces.
360° Awareness
The XC40 includes the latest in miniature camera technology to help you see everything around you. Of course, the standard Rear Park Assist Camera provides high-definition video from behind the vehicle, including visual guidelines and audible alerts to aid in judging alignment and distance when reversing. The available 360° Camera uses multiple cameras built into all sides of the vehicle to render a birds-eye-view of your surroundings; you can even see what's going around the corner at a 180° side view in front or at the rear of your car.
Alternative Options
While the XC40 is a crossover designed to meet many needs, it may not meet your specific needs. We have many other body styles and new Volvo options available. If you’re looking for something with a little more room inside, the XC90 features all of these impressive Volvo innovations as well as a third row of seating for up to seven passengers. Need a sedan with speed? The S60 R-Design is worth a look.
