2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge

Overview
The 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge is yet another example of the marque’s commitment to a more sustainable future. The 5-seater compact SUV also marks Volvo’s first attempt at an all-electric vehicle outside of the more performance-oriented Polestar division. The end result is a responsive and efficient SUV that offers an impressively efficient driving experience with zero emissions and plenty of performance on demand. The XC40 Recharge also makes creature comforts abundant, starting with the SUV’s standard Nubuck textile and Nappa leather-trimmed seats and a two-zone automatic climate control system. The included humidity sensor helps balance humidity levels relative to outdoor climates.
The Perfect Ride For…
Eco-conscious buyers in search of an efficient and fashionable SUV. The Volvo XC40 Recharge combines sleek design with classic Swedish aesthetics with the convenience and sustainability of an electric vehicle. The interior also carries an eco-friendly theme thanks to the use of sustainable materials, including carpeting that’s made partially from recycled plastic. The XC40 Recharge features two trim levels: Plus and Ultimate. The Ultimate trim adds 20-inch alloy wheels along with heated rear seats, headlight high-pressure cleaning, and an upgraded sound system with an air-ventilated subwoofer.
Drive and Handling
The 2023 XC40 Recharge gets its motivation from a pair of powerful electric motors, with each motor driving the front and rear wheels. Both motors provide a combined total output of 402 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque, making the all-electric compact SUV capable of reaching 60 mph from a standstill in 4.7 seconds. A 75-kilowatt-hour battery pack nets the XC40 Recharge up to 223 miles of EPA-estimated driving range.
The XC40 Recharge also boasts up to 150 kilowatts of DC fast charging capability, making it easy to quickly recharge the all-electric SUV when you’re on the go. Drivers can go from 10 percent to 80 percent in roughly 33 minutes under optimal charging conditions, according to Volvo’s estimates. A 4-camera surround view system provides a 360-degree view of the XC40 Recharge when parking in cramped areas. Frontal and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance systems help minimize the likelihood of run-ins with pedestrians and other vehicles under normal driving conditions.
Key Features
Built-In Google
The 9-inch center display also features an assortment of built-in Google technology, including full access to apps on Google Play. Integrated Google Maps provides real-time traffic updates and automatic rerouting to help you avoid traffic jams and find the fastest route available. You can also use Google Maps to locate charging stations throughout your journey. Google Assistant provides hands-free voice control for most infotainment features, including the available Harman Kardon Premium Sound system.
Front Trunk
With the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge, there’s no need for a gasoline engine. In its place is a front trunk or “frunk” that offers secure storage for valuable items you want to hide from prying eyes. The frunk also serves as storage space for the all-electric SUV’s charging cables. This thoughtful addition is the perfect complement to the XC40 Recharge’s normal 57.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
Heat Pump
Available on the Ultimate trim, the heat pump acts as a range extender under normal conditions. In cold weather, however, the heat pump transfers thermal energy from the battery and ambient air to the cabin. This feature also keeps the battery at optimal temperatures for ideal range and performance.
Alternative Options
If you want more space, consider the full-sized XC90 for optimal seating and interior space. Drivers who want a lavish sedan should explore the Volvo S90 for a true executive experience. Not sure?
