Drivers in pursuit of a stylish luxury crossover with the reliability and grace of the Volvo brand will gravitate toward the 2025 XC90. With nearly ten different trims offered, drivers can choose from a beautifully equipped base model up to an exceptionally equipped PHEV with all the bells and whistles. Drivers may also choose a seating configuration for six or seven, depending on their needs, with all passengers having access to conveniences like cup holders and USB outlets. 

What's New for 2025?

The 2025 Volve XC90 received a refreshed exterior for the front end, as well as some design changes to the interior area around the dashboard. Volvo enlarged the infotainment system to 11.2 inches and also reduced the noise level within the cabin.  The vehicle also features some updated materials and styling throughout the interior, and Volvo has also made the 20-inch wheels a standard feature of the entry-level trim. Drivers should note that Volvo has introduced a mid-year update for the 2025 model year, which means there are a few subtle differences between the 2025 and the 2025 1/2 models.

Real World Performance

 Volvo offers several trims for its XC90 with the various B5 and B6 trims featuring a mild hybrid setup with a 48-volt electric motor and a 247-horsepower engine for the B5 or a 295-horsepower engine for the B6. For the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) trims, Volvo offers a plug-in hybrid motor with 455 horsepower. The transmission for the XC90 is an eight-speed automatic. All of the different motor configurations and trims for the XC90 also feature all-wheel drive.

The XC90 has some towing capabilities, too, depending on the configuration. For the base models or B5 powertrains, the towing capacity reaches 4,000 pounds. For the B6 and plug-in hybrid configurations, the maximum tow rating increases to 5,000 pounds. The XC90 also features an active air suspension system that can adjust the car automatically for improved stability, energy efficiency, and ground clearance when needed. The XC90 also affords drivers excellent cargo capacity with up to 85.7 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down.
