Those with an eye for fashion should take note—Volvo has announced that its stylish new SUV, the XC40, will go on sale in 2019. With a playful color palette and dozens of possible interior and exterior combinations, the XC40 is a small SUV that’s perfect for younger city-dwellers with their fingers on the pulse. Volvo calls it “a distinctive car for a distinctive driver.” 

Unconventional inspiration 

“We took inspiration for the XC40’s color and materials from many different sources, mixing them and putting them back together into something cohesive. What we created is a car with a tough attitude that feels fresh, energetic, and confident,” said Ebba Maria Thunbery, vice president of Color & Materials at Volvo Cars.

Bold options abound

Interior options like Oxide Red upholstery and warm Lava Orange carpet will give the XC40 a youthful but high-quality feel. On the outside, the XC40 will offer a broad selection of colors ranging from a solid monochromatic theme to expressive two-tones, while trim pieces are expected to mimic urban architecture and cartography.  “[The XC40 allows] its drivers to put their personality in their driveway," said Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Designer at Volvo Cars.

Keeping with current Volvo trim names, the XC40 will be offered in Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription grades with Momentum versions offering the most striking color combinations. Look for the XC40 to offer both conventional and plug-in hybrid powertrains as well as both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
